Soundscape No. 1: Bitter

This project inspired me to change my process, which usually involves pencil and staff paper or notation software. For this work, I decided to use a simple form of graphic notation and a midi-capable keyboard to play and record sequences directly into GarageBand. This composition is a four-part round based on the genetic code for bitter taste perception. The music is set in 5/4 to reflect the 10-note sequences in the code. The sequences were organized in fifteen groups of four. Each group was assigned a unique set of note names based on personal preference. Reassigning note names every eight measures provided for greater melodic and harmonic variety throughout the composition.
